Saturday at Hammerhead was the first chance that we had to put together an Exotic Location set with 4 x Rick's Place sets to have Rick's Place, Museum, Riad & Souk all on the table at the same time.

That looks really great, Chris.   Love

What sort of paint did you use for the walls? Did you undercoat first?

My sets showed up yesterday, midwest USA. Very cool.

I am looking forward to seeing some photos of sets our backers have put together!

I painted my Locations using household emulsion.
The outside walls were painted with PVA glue and sprinkled with fine sand. When dry I used household white emulsion with a little brick red stirred in to base coat followed by a heavy drybrush of white emulsion.
I did not prime.
It is important to get all the painting done before gluing the floor coverings in place.

I've got as far as sticking together 2 of the basic sets and the extra bits for the Riad and Museum. It's been a bit of a busy week for other things.
Hopefully I can get the other bits assembled and start painting next week. Will post some photos once I've got somewhere.

I started mine today, it's going to take some serious time to get it all built!

It will.... but it will be worth it. These sets are very versatile and can be re-arranged in lots of different ways.

I would not do it all it once, we did not when we were designing it. We have had loads of great games using a single building as the center piece of games table, so if you start with Ricks Place Location and then set dressings, you can be playing a game on it after a weekends model making.

Chipping away on my sets Smiley

Chris, do you happen to have any close-up shots of a wall with a large lattice window? It looks like they are supposed to have a thin sill on each side. The lattices are a bit smaller than the window though, and I am wondering if there is something meant to keep them in position and fill the slight gap?

Yes, very slightly smaller to allow for thickness of textured paint and pva glue to glue them into position. 2mm square window sill glued to either side of wall.

Instead of being a good little LAFer and working on LPL entries, I finished painting the Exotic Location terra blocks for Rick's Place, Museum, Souk, and Riad. Set dressings are in progress...

That is coming along very nicely.
I do like your doors, I might need to go back over mine and give them the two tone treatment.
Are they just painted with Acrylic?

Any one else started building their exotic locations?

Thanks, some of the innner doors are one tone- although most are painted like the ones shown above. The doors were primed with a reddish auto spray primer, then painted with acrylic. For the brass look I do a layer of dull yellow green, followed by gold. The texture on outer walls is done using the 'Phipps Method' (http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=15132.0). His process takes a while but is worth it, and matches the rest of my North Africa terrain.

It will be nice to have some gameable interiors.
