Hi,

I am new to this forum but not that new to miniature wargaming .
However, the only old west games I played 'til now were with the lotow rules . I do like the system very much but I am always eager to try out some new systems, so my question is if anyone can give me a hint for a rulesystem that I simply MUST try out ?

Thanks !

I will be playing my first game of Black Gultch on Thursday and doing a review. Overall the rules are well done, hard to say but Legends had a good game design that I have been able to match up yet.

I've always wanted to try the Savage Worlds Showdown miniature rules. The rules are free, but I think you need at least a copy of the Explorer's Edition RPG to make units and stuff...but don't quote me on that.

I seem to recall it's all in the free document and it is well worth a go!

Thanks, I suppose "black gultch" should be "blackwater gulch", because that's what I found googling for it .
Anyway, I now have both Blackwater gulch and Savage Worlds Showdown to be tested . That should keep our little gaming group busy for a little while .

I'll put a vote in for "Gutshot".

I like them rules and they ain't difficult at all and pretty easy to get to - available on PDF I think.

Just played a game of Blackwater Gulch on Thursday with another person on LAF here, should be posting an update on my blog soon enough. That said, the game played well, it has a great deal of being able to tailor a gang to how you want to play.

DocDuckButter told me about Gutshot and I am interested in giving it a try....the only thing I hear that is a major negative is it isn't about a gang/posse but more like a single model story driven game.

Are the "Rules with no Name" still available for free download? I think foundry wants to sell the print theses days. Never palyed them but I have a printed translation and the PDF lying around somewhere here. I'd say the rules look quite good from reading, but i would have to test them first to fully recommend them.

You might also want to check out Six Gun Sound by Two Hour Wargames. You can do solo play, which in practice means all the players can either be on the same side, or not in direct conflict. It also has a campaign system that I've heard some good stuff about.

I have a copy of the book, the rules are good but very detailed, limited facings and such, something only a very technical hard core gamer would like.

Ah silly me. Didn't notice you were looking for a posse game. I'm more for the 1 player 1 character game.. gives some thrilling shoot outs often.  Laugh
