My Cobra Commander figure arrived last week from East Riding Miniatures, so time to start my army in earnest.
I've started assembling and painting but nothing finished so no pics yet.
What I will do though, is jot down some of my plans, in the hope of picking up some new or better ideas by way of feedback.
So, here we go:

Cobra Commander: Commander figure from East Riding Miniatures (already purchased)

Vipers: Defiance Games UAMC marines with the gasmasks filed down. Already started on two squads.

So long as they look ok side by side, Ghulam with head swaps as Viper officers:

F.A.N.G: 1:72 scale Commanche with the cockpit ripped out and replaced (got one, just needs a pilot)

Crimson Guard: Victoria miniatures dress uniform torso, GW Catachan legs, not sold on a source for the helmet, thinking maybe a converted space marine helmet?

'Blue Shirt' troopers: Victoria miniatures Victorian guard torso, GW Catachan legs, again not sure on a helmet, either based on a german or Cadian head. The torsos will need some work too, removing the extra strap and making the back look like a 'Y' harness.

Copperhead: Catachan legs, torso and arms, Cadian Valykrie pilot head

Destro and a few Iron Grenadiers: Conversions of the forgeworld Death Korp HQ

Zarana: Hasslefree miniatures Summer

Baroness: Hasslefree miniatures Dionne but with longer hair and glasses, and some armour plating.

Firefly: Infinity SAS

Zartan: Maybe a dark Angels hooded head, Cadian torso and catachan arms and legs? Not decided.

Nightstalkers: Maybe conversions of the old female dark eldar...I dont know, does anyone know any cool armoured female figures?

Alley Vipers: Hassasin Muyibs with converted helmets. Maybe grind off the backpacks and put shields on

Techno Vipers: Forgeworld Elysium drop troops torsos with Wargames Factory helmets and Catachan legs

Tele Vipers: The Elysium legs and arms with torsos I know I've seen but cant find now :/ ...and left over 'open helmet' heads from Defiance marines

Night Vipers: Infinity Zhanshis and Celestial Guard with head and weapon swaps

HEAT Vipers: based on these guys

Dreadnoks will of course be a mix of peices, as each one has a unique appearance.

HISS tanks: Those Shapeways ones (I'll get the link when I update this.)

A-10 jets: should be obvious.

Battle Balls: Scratchbuilt

Still havent decided on a Baron Bludd either...

Stormshadow: Reaper minis Ghost Dragon Ninja

So? are there any other figures I should be looking at before I throw money at this project?

There's a good "not-Baroness" out there.  I think it's a Reaper Chronoscope figure?

I think I know the one you mean, if so I thought about it but it's more of a 'Black Widow' to me.

I'm also thinking of this one for her:

'cos I like the armoured look like this

I considered using that mini for the Baroness too. I ended up using the other one purely for the sex appeal, but I think both will work great. Good to see your Cobra project is coming along nicely. Reminds me that I need to get back to mine someday.

There can not be enough awesome GI Joe threads.  I'll admit I do not have the time/patience to begin my own...but if someone did a 28mm line of GI Joe figures, I could very quickly see myself getting drawn into it.

I'd love to do a Cobra project too, but I'll have to live vicariously through other folks like you for now.  Good luck, and post lots of photos!

I bought five Reaper Chronoscope Nova Corp Security Troopers to use as a squad of semi-Cobra-esque guys.

I'll be interested to see how all of the different manufacturers models match up in this project as some of the stuff I wouldn't have thought would work with one another.

Yes yes yes!

Enough of all this 'who and what goes where' business. Paint something and build that fantastic idea of a helicopter you've spawned.  Laugh

Ok, first work in progress shot, two viper test figures, partly painted Cobra Commander and a start on Copperhead. The FANG is in the background, waiting on a pilot figure before that goes further. Cobra Commander is going to have a gold sceptre with an emerald.

I can see from the Copperhead that GW parts are not going to be suitable, they're just not going to fit in (as stone-cold-lead thought Smiley ) My plan now is to replace any planned use of catachan legs with Bolt Action British Commando legs, and the blue shirt troops will be commandos with the shirt details scrapped smooth and helmets converted from...something. I might use the Catachan legs for dreadnoks since they look pretty different anyway.

Those Nova Corp Security guys look perfect, I just passed over them before but now they're definitely on the must-buy list. Thanks palaeomerus! Maybe they could be neo-vipers?

I've always, personally, found GI Joe childish and trivial...

Keep proving me a narrow-minded buffoon.  Laugh

By the way, the above never stopped me from stealing toys for other projects. If my center-of-the-earth VSF force ever happens, it will be with three to four M.O.L.E.s made into a digger train, and the old I.M.P. makes an awesome 15mm land ship.

Go Joe!

Cobra Commander didn't watch "The Incredibles."  He's gonna get sucked into a jet engine with that cape.

Curious too, are you going to use the canopy on the helo, or go for an open-cockpit like the proper Cobra helos?

It would take some work, and conversion...but would be a nice throw-back.
