I know a lot of people have looked at Batman as a Super Hero and even Weird World War mini, but how about in the horror genre?
He has had some titles that would warrant it. Ones that come to mind;
  • Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham Cthulian mythos comes to Gotham
  • Batman & Dracula: Red Rain, Bloodstorm and Crimson Mist. Dracula comes to Gotham and Batman becomes a monster to fight him.
  • Batman: Haunted Gotham Demons have a hold on Gotham and all who enter.

Just wondering if anyone has done anything with this?

For some reviews

There's even a Heroclix figure of the Vampire Batman (Cosmic Justice #95)

I've never played anything like that myself, but its a damn fine idea. The Red Rain trilogy are actually some of my favourite Batman comics (an unpopular stance, I know).

I think it would be easy enough to have a Batman very reminiscent of the Golden Age Sandman, or a bit more Doc Savage-like, and that would fit in nicely with a 1920's Cthulhu setting.

Also, there is a bit in the movie Batman Begins, where he is swooping out of the darkness, picking off gangsters at the docks one by one and terrifying them. Its more like Alien than Adam West. I don't see why Bats couldn't make the jump to the horror genre.  Smiley

Conversely, of course, I might do both.

The doom that came to gotham is a great story...well, looks cool at least. Always wanted to do that frozen ship in gotham harbor...cool idea.

Yeah, I'm all over "The Doom that Came to Gotham". Mignola is always a winner, of course, but I love their take on his rogue's gallery.

Don't forget the classic "Gotham by Gaslight", either. Kicked off the whole Elseworlds craze back then. "Holy Terror" was also an interesting read, with the Batman mythos set in a theocratic Cromwell-ian commonwealth.

I also dig "Arkham Asylum" with writing by Grant Morrison and art by Dave McKean. *Very* adult look at the villains, with surreal art and an almost-mythic tale around it.

"Red Rain" was a cute idea, but IMHO, they went too far with it.

There's also the Frankenstein homage, "Castle of the Bat", but it's best avoided, much like the Houdini crossover (yes, really.)
